Jesus called people to leave their homes, abandon their jobs, risk their lives, and even give up their families for him. What happens when we get serious about the gospel and join the radical journey of following him?
Look what Jesus asks of us:
10 Radical Sayings of Jesus
1. Deny Yourself and Follow Me
If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23
2. Become a Servant
Whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:26-27
3. Sell Your Stuff and Give to the Poor
And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” Mark 10:21
4. Being Persecuted is a Blessing
Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Luke 6:22
5. Don’t Worry
Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Matthew 6:25
6. Not Everyone Gets Into the Kingdom
Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name? And then will I declare to them, I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness. Matthew 7:21-23
7. Fear God
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28
8. Humility Reigns
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Matthew 23:12
9. Jesus Before Your Family
If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:26
10. Jesus is the Only Way to God
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
This is what it means to be a follower of Jesus. We are called to live radical lives. Not just read about it, hear sermons about it, or study it.
Jesus was a radical. If we follow him – then we will be radical.
Choose – Daily
Jesus followers are called to live radically. This is not a one-time decision, but a day-by-day-moment-by-moment choice.
Choose your calling.
Choose to be a radical.
